2nd Annual CCMS Literacy Month



March is national literacy month, and CCMS has some exciting activities planned for students to emphasize literacy.  Next week, March 4-8 will be literacy week at CCMS with extra literacy activities planned for each day.

Monday March 4--Kick off the Spring Book Fair and Literacy month with a school wide Book Fair video and a visit from the Bowling Green Hot Rod's mascot, with a chance for students to win 2 free Hot Rods tickets.

Tuesday March 5--Kentucky Story Teller Thomas Reese will present Haunted Battlefields of the Civil War to the CCMS student body at 1:00

Wednesday March 6--DEAR (Drop Everything and Read)

Thursday March 7--CCMS students view a webinar with Diary of the Wimpy Kid Series Author, Jeff Kinney

Friday March 8--Dress as your favorite character from a book.  There will be 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners from each grade level and each will receive a free personal pan pizza. CCMS students will also enjoy Books and Bagels.

The Spring  Book Fair will be here all week with some exciting new titles for students to purchase!

During the week of March students have multiple opportunities to participate in literacy contest and win some prizes. There will be a grade level reading competition between the grades.  6th graders sign up with Ms. Brittany, 7th graders sign up with Mr. Coverstone, and 8th graders sign up with Ms. Rowe.

1st period classes will compete with Daily Literacy Trivia and
students may write a book review to be published in the Cumberland County News and here on our school blog.  All who participate will receive free personal pan pizzas.

Be the overall reading champ for the month of march by accumulating the most AR points and win a great prize!

Encourage your students to get involved, and participate in the 2nd annual CCMS Literacy Month!!!

Jr. Beta Prepares for State Competition

The Jr. Beta Club prepared for state competition with a practice performance of the Living Literature, Songfest performance, individual talent, and an individual speech for the CCMS student body.  
They did an outstanding job.  Good luck at State Beta Convention!

SUGAR SUGAR AND MORE SUGAR

Students at CCMS found out that Mountain Dew, Snapple, Yoplait Yogurt, Sunny D  and Energy drinks are among those have largest amount of sugar.  Ms. Debbie and Ms. Traci, from the County Extension Office taught students about the dangers and long term effects of consuming so much sugar on a daily basis.

JANUARY SUPER STARS



The January SUPERSTARS,  or students of the month, were 6th grader Lydia Hagan, 8th Grader Holli Catron, and there was a 3 way tie for 7th grade between McKenzie Pruitt, Chase Patterson, and Katie Brown.  The monthly superstars are voted on by their teachers.  Way to go students keep up the hard work!

THE ROCK CYCLE

Students in Ms. Dishman's 6th grade science class worked in groups completing a hands on activity to learn more about the rock cycle. 



CCMS ARCHERY TEAM

The CCMS Archery team prepares for the upcoming archery team competition.
 




 

January Teacher of the Month

Ms. Kristen Rowe was selected as the January teacher of the month at CCMS.  Kristen is a first year math teacher.  Ms. Rowe also coaches CCMS girls basketball and softball.  Way to go Kristen!

SCIENCE AND SOCIAL STUDIES PROFICIENT AND DISTINGUISHED

Mr. G's PE class learns to dance

As part of the Kentucky standards for Arts and Humanities, Mr. G's Physical Education class learned about the elements of dance and then took a stab at implementing those elements with some various dances.  This group was very entertaining and had a great time learning about the elements of dance!
 



 

Volcanoes, Chemical Reactions, and Science Oh My...

6th grade science students have been busy building volcanoes, watching chemical reactions, and making a hypothesis about the what soil is the best for growing butter beans.

CCMS Coat Drive

CCMS 6th grader Grace, organized and held a winter coat drive as part of her service project for Beta.  Grace will speak about her service project at the state Beta Convention in March.  Great job Grace!
