Piracy Presentations

Students in the 8th grade technology class conducted research on Internet piracy, music and movie piracy, the consequences of piracy, how to avoid piracy, the meaning of copyrights, and plagiarism. Students used their research to create presentations using Power Point, as well as advertisements to encourage others not to break the law when it comes to online information.

Students chose from voki.com, vocaroo.com, or Photo Story to complete their advertisements. Student advertisements and presentations were a big hit with their classmates!

THE INCREDIBLE EDIBLE CELL

In conjunction with the lesson on cells, 8th grade science students created the Edible Cell. Student groups created a cell model using all edible materials. There were four awards up for grabs with this class activity, Most Accurate, Most Attractive, Most Creative and Most Delicious. All students agree this was a creative and "tasty" way to learn and remember the structure of both animal and plant cells.

Play Dough Economics

Trade or Barter? That was the question that Ms. Brittany's

Economics students were trying to answer.

Students in Ms. Brittany's Economics class participated in Play Dough Economics to compare and contrast bartering and trading with money. Students got to use their creativity and imaginations to produce goods from Play Dough and classroom materials, to trade and barter. Students found that trade with money has many advantages over bartering!

CCMS TAKES A STAND AGAINST BULLYING

Bullying peaks at the middle school ages for most children. Guidance counselor Dorothy Smith has developed a “Bully Box” for each classroom, along with a Bully Form. Students can identify bullying of any type, even if they’ve only witnessed someone else being bullied. That report goes in the bully box. Each report is investigated by administration and consequences are delivered when we believe bullying has taken place. We believe every student deserves to feel safe at school and promise to do everything we can to stop bullying at CCMS.

.

RENOVATIONS COMPLETE

Anonymous surveys can say a lot. The parents, staff, and students of Cumberland County Middle School were given the opportunity to answer questions about our school. The overall results and comments were overwhelmingly positive. Two concerns were mentioned multiple times: the issue of bullying, and the condition of our bathrooms.
As many are aware, CCMS went through numerous renovations over the last school year. The last of those renovations and updates included the bathrooms. The bathrooms were the last to be completed right before the start of the 2012-2013 school year. Each bathroom received a new vanity, automatic faucets, automatic flushers, new hand dryers, and even new stall dividers. The completed bathrooms capped off the updates and now our building is in the best shape it’s been in since it was built.
